Candles, Christmas Lights, And Other Beautiful Hazards

!±8± Candles, Christmas Lights, And Other Beautiful Hazards

You're soon to decorate your place for Thanksgiving and Christmas, aren't you? There are a few things that all apartmentites must keep in mind before embarking on your holiday decorating adventure.

Candles- You may not realize it, but candles (if allowed by your apartments) can be a safety hazard that you must be aware of. Never leave a candle burning when you are leaving the apartment or going to sleep. All it takes is one random act of nature to knock the candle over and send your place ablaze. Also, be very aware of your candle placement. Candles near the Christmas tree or the Menorah near the curtains = Bad! Make sure to keep an eye on your pets around open flames as well. I had a cat once who was completely entranced by the candle flame until he tried to bite it. Then he learned his lesson the hard way. Thankfully the whiskers grew back.

Porch/Patio Decoration- Keep these clutter free and make sure to check with your apartment management to see what stipulations they have on porch/patio decorations.

Christmas Lights- Always be sure that you follow proper electrical safety guidelines with your Christmas lights. Check each strand for tears in the wires or protective covering and discard them if you find any. Plug all strands into a surge protector rather than directly into the wall outlet. Decoratively...pick either one color and keep it consistent...or...do the multi-colored things, but do not mix in strands of only white lights...BE CONSISTENT! Otherwise it just has a tendency to look trashy.

Kids and Presents- Keep a watchful eye on your kids and the presents under the tree. There isn't a kid out there who won't jump at the chance to tear a corner of a present neatly to see whats inside and then effortlessly close it back up to make it appear to have never been tampered with.

Ornaments- While we are discussing kids, watch out for your ornaments. Kids and small animals love the sparkles of an ornament and I magically drawn to remove them from the tree and play with them like a toy. The sharp hooks that hang them on the tree can be a danger to both children and animals. Also, the bulbs break easily and can also pose a danger. I suggest using twist ties to hang your ornaments if you have small children, cats, or monkies in your apartment. Dogs tend to leave the ornaments alone, but drink out of the tree's water dish.

Music- Christmas music is festive and fun, but beware, too much of it will ruin your Christmas. You will find yourself bitter about that little drummer boy by the end of December if you aren't careful. Also, in apartments, remember that you have neighbors. If you are blasting Silent Night, they may be none too pleased and all may not be calm and bright.

Turkey Time- If you are entertaining for Thanksgiving, make sure to have a number of blankets and pillows around for your guests to cat nap after the chemicals in the turkey set in. During your shopping, make sure to get ziplock bags and small disposable containers so that you can send people home with left overs. Otherwise, you will end up with a fridge full of food...which isn't a terrible thing if you eat like me.

Keeping these simple tips in mind should help add to your safety this holiday season. You may also want to double check your locks every night and when you leave the apartment as break-ins increase during the holidays. It's even a good idea to vary the times that you come home everyday, so that if a crook is casing you...they are unable to see any sort of consistency.

Christmas Movies

!±8± Christmas Movies

Just the word Christmas movies reminds us of all the fun-filled holidays, turkey meals, house time and what not. That is the time when kids get to eat as much cookies as they want, all mischief by them goes unnoticed and even adults have fun. The only time in the year where we get to see all our relatives and friends in one place. And should never forget the glee and fun we share when we open our gifts. Anything as outrageous as a Bmw car to something as humble as a sweater is looked upon with the same happiness. So what do we do once we derive as a family....what else, we watch a Christmas movie.

Christmas Movies

It's a breathtaking life, released in 1946 is a classical movie which sure kindles up the holiday spirit. The story revolves nearby Bailey, a tough-luck guy who is struck in a town he wishes to escape. On a Christmas night, while he tries to commit suicide he meets an angel who shows him the world which is filled with happiness. And the climax is amazing, which many of the modern movies now are missing.

A Christmas story, released in 1983, is a one of the all time beloved Christmas movies in which Ralphie Parker longs for a Red Rider Rifle. All the other characters also make a chronic impression on you. Like Ralphie mom who happens to be caring and affectionate and she reminds us of our own mother. Ralphie's friend Peter Billingsley portrays the childhood innocence effortlessly. This movie is a treat if you like slapstick comedy. Even if you don't, please do watch this movie and for sure you will fall in love with it.

The Polar Express, released in 2004 has a firm place in Christmas movies as all the scenes in the movie cry out Christmas for loud. It is based on the book in the same name and boy it's breathtaking how the movie has outdone the book. The pinnacle of the movie is when Santa arrives, it just makes you spell bound. St.Nick is played by Tom Hanks (Oh! yes...of procedure he has played many other characters in the same film). Just watching the movie at any time of the year will make you yearn for Christmas.

The Muppet's Christmas Carol, released in 1992 has a firm and undeniable spot in all time beloved Christmas movies. Michael Kane plays as Scrooge and Kermit, the frog is his assistant. The movie has breathtaking songs and rekindles the Christmas spirit. Also it has lot of laughs and is an ideal movie to watch with kids.

The Santa Claus, released in 1994 features Tim Allan who happens to kill Santa accidentally and is forced to take Santa's place. Though he has preliminary grudges, he learns to love being Santa. He even puts on weight and grows a beard. Tim looks the part ans never fails to entertain you. Though the sequels are not as good, this movie is a one of the good Christmas movies you can watch during Christmas.

Watch all the Christmas movies and have fun, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
